A tall order, perhaps: create a 90s family sitcom parody with some decrepit elephant marionettes from god-knows-where. But Know No Stranger was up for it.
As soon as we had a script, we began creating the audio track. I recorded the four characters’ lines, edited for the best takes and sequenced those together, peppering in studio elephant-audience laughs and trumpeting.
After the marionettes were filmed to (more or less) match the audio, it was time to go back in for an additional pass of detail. I found innumerable sound effects and lined them up with the action. I panned characters’ voices to match their position on screen. And for a final touch, I applied the Haas effect to the audience laughter, so it sounds like it’s coming from either side of the listener.
I also created the titles and applied VHS-degraded effects to this video using After Effects.
